WECLOME TO OUR NEW SHELTER CLINIC CAMPAING
Pet and Wildlife Rescue (PAWR) sees an average of 3000 animals each year and due to our current situation, which combines a shortage of veterinarians and an increase is cost of services, our staff/volunteers must drive animal across the region to find services for our shelter animals.
Travel time and cost are both difficult to manage, but harder yet is the toll on our animals who have to sit in cages longer than necessary due to the lack of surgery time available. We have excellent relationships with the clinics we work with, but their hands are tied as they must accommodate for their private clients as well.
Dogs are forced to remain at the shelter for several weeks while awaiting a spay/neuter appointment which not only ties up space and resources and exposes animals to diseases and stress but it also minimizes the amount of individual attention each animal can receive from staff. Cats are a serious concern in our area and we care for an average of 250 cats throughout the year. During kitten season, it is not unusual for our shelter to take in 20 cats in a single day.
The solution to many of our struggles is very clear, we must have a better and faster way to provide pre-adoption care to our animals to maximize their chances at a new life and minimize their stay in the shelter. Though it is a big undertaking, we are ready to start building a new era of better animal welfare in Chatham-Kent.
