Finding the right home for every animal sometimes means thinking outside the shelter — and bringing them directly into the community.
Thanks to a generous grant from PetSmart Charities of Canada, PAWR launched AdoptSmart, a program designed to give more of our adoptable animals the exposure they need to find loving homes.
Through Adopt Smart, our team brings adoptable dogs and bunnies to participating PetSmart stores twice each month, giving shoppers the chance to meet them in person, learn about their personalities and, hopefully, make that perfect connection. For animals waiting in a shelter, exposure can make all the difference. Every opportunity to meet new people increases their chances of finding a family, while also helping us create space to take in the next animal who needs us.
The program is especially exciting for our bunnies, who can sometimes be overlooked when people think about adoption. Bringing them into a busy community setting gives people a chance to see just how much personality these little animals have — and to learn more about what it takes to give a rabbit a great home. Our dogs also benefit from getting out of the shelter environment, meeting new people and showing potential adopters who they really are.
Adopt Smart isn’t just about increasing adoptions. It’s about saving more lives. Every successful adoption opens a space at PAWR for another stray, surrendered or vulnerable animal in our community. We are incredibly grateful to PetSmart Charities of Canada for investing in this program and helping us find new ways to connect animals with the people who will love them.
